A one-man play and talkback about the real-life artistic and spiritual journey of Kirk Dunn, who took 15 years to knit a triptych of large tapestries, designed in the style of stained glass windows, exploring the commonalities and conflicts of the Abrahamic faiths.

There is no other project like it in the world.

Kirk is a knitter, actor, and writer. He is also a ‘PK’ – a preacher’s kid: the product of three generations of Presbyterian ministers.
Stage credits include Billy Bishop Goes to War (Ergo Arts Theatre, Carousel); Merlin, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) (YPT); Dads! The Musical (Charlottetown, Stirling, Drayton); Romeo and Juliet (Ford Centre); More Munsch (The Grand); The War Show, A Flea in Her Ear, Don’t Dress for Dinner, and The Affections of May (Drayton).
Kirk has been knitting since 1988. In 1998, he apprenticed with Kaffe Fassett in England. In 2003, Kirk received a Chalmers Fellowship for Stitched Glass, an installation that took 15 years to knit. With The Knitting Pilgrim, he is now exploring the intersectionality of writing, performing and knitting – his most exciting adventure yet. www.kirkdunn.com

Out-of-the-Box Fibre Artists invite you to a show and sale of the fibre and mixed media art.  Our membership includes a wide range of fibre artists, many of whom belong to area guilds as well.  At last year’s show, around 45 artists exhibited – art quilts, mixed media framed works, felting, wearables, embroidery, dolls, beadwork, jewelry, rug hooking and more.  The depth, quality and originality of the work are inspiring.

As well, an extensive Sales area gives visitors and opportunity to purchase a variety of unique items including small framed artwork, wearables such as scarves, hats and bags, jewelry, cards, handmade books and an array of felting, stitchery, knitting and crochet.

“Soup for Thought” at the Textile Museum

Everyone’s tastiest fundraising event is back and better than ever, so save the date: Saturday, March 30, 12 – 2 pm.
 
Once again, the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum will host its sell-out favourite “Soup for Thought” fundraiser. You’ll be able to buy a fabulous bowl, hand made by the artists at the Almonte’s Potters Guild, fill it with delicious soups from restaurants in Almonte and Carleton Place, add a roll, coffee and dessert and enjoy a meal with friends or family.
 
Featured again this year is the “taster’s choice” where you can try smaller servings of three delicious soups. Doors will open at 11:45 am, and there’s no need to worry about getting the “best bowls” as we make sure of a terrific selection throughout the event.
 
TICKETS: There is only ONE sitting from noon to 2 pm. Seating is limited, and tickets can only be purchased in advance, so don’t wait! Tickets are available at the Museum (visa payment accepted by phone) and at Baker Bob’s (cash only). Adults are $25 and children 3-12, $10 (no pottery bowl); children under 3 are free. No tickets will be sold at the door.
